Soulbooks
Last week I was too busy managing Quinton and his mound of glitter on his SoulBook to take pictures of our group for you. (The meeting before I have no excuse. I guess I was just focused on living in the moment.)
Fortunately, Billie Jo has done an excellent job of sending me photos of her work and of her children’s work. Here they are!
We have one last session on February 18th. Do come if you are interested even if you haven’t before. We have plenty of cardboard, glue, and baubles to go around. (But I am going to lay off the glitter. Forever.)

Writing Update:
I’ve been plugging away at the revisions. And I do mean plugging–a little like that one time I tried cross country skiing and we spent the whole time slogging across a plain. It’s a good thing I like that book.
To keep myself from too much drudgery, I’ve been working through the exercises in the late Ursula Le Guin’s book Steering the Craft.
This is the second exercise I did from the punctuation chapter. It’s a paragraph of narration with no punctuation, and I wrote on the lady I saw sleeping on an exercise machine at the YMCA the other day. (I asked the attendant to check on her. She really was okay. No cute little ladies were harmed in the making of this exercise.)
After all the punctuation I am adding to my students’ writing or pestering them to add, it felt like I was getting away with something marvelous to drop all those little marks I usually love.
“Basketballs and Rowing Machines”
Machines moving swinging swaying humming one lady just off to the left in the bank of rowing recumbent bicycle sort of things only more high-tech you know one lady with her head slumped into her black puffer jacket small feet carefully propped into the footrests straps on could be a heart attack but no she is just dozing inches away from a court full of basketball players pounding the shining floor in front of her with their tennis shoes squeaking each turn like noisy stiff ballerinas looking for a hole a net a bit of net above their own heads focused on the ball the net the other powerful young men around them anyway she dozes that way in the puffer jacket while the players dribble and the rowers next to her spin.
Wishing you a wonderful week,

I’ve yet to do anything with my soul book. Yikes…
Don’t stress. It’s all just play?
